Christian T. Hoffman Jr.

Christian T. Hoffman, Jr., PE & LS (Ret.) desired to spearhead his career involved in environmental protection after seeing how society was becoming increasingly conscious of the importance of the field. Inspired to do his part in making a positive impact, he went on to earn an undergraduate degree in civil engineering, followed by a master’s degree in civil engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1964. Shortly thereafter, he became a professional engineer and land surveyor in 1966, as well as a certified professional planner in 1983.

Mr. Hoffman commenced his career with the New Jersey Department of Health, which eventually merged his division with the state’s Department of Environmental Protection, where he worked for 55 years. In his role as a research scientist, he specialized in environmental engineering, wastewater and water pollution control until his retirement in 2021. In addition, Mr. Hoffman had spent ample time as an educator at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and as a committee member of the New Jersey Water Environment Association and the Water Environment Federation.

Reflecting upon his career, Mr. Hoffman notes his professional success stems from the fact that he enjoyed working in his field, especially under the auspices of the state of New Jersey, which has always been a shining example of commitment to protecting the environment. To remain abreast of his industry, he maintains membership with the Tau Beta Pi Association and the Licensing Board of Certification for Water and Wastewater Operators. Despite his retirement, Mr. Hoffman remains dedicated to contributing to the environment’s well-being through special projects and volunteering.
